2026 IREx Grants for Summer Interns in Exoplanets

9 December 2025

The Institute for Research on Exoplanets (IREx), affiliated with the Department of Physics of the Université de Montréal (UdeM), is calling for applications from undergraduate students for:

  • Trottier Excellence Grants in Exoplanetary Research (multiple grants available)

The summer internships last 4 months (May to August 2026). They constitute a unique opportunity for students at the undergraduate level to join IREx’s dynamic team and to get involved in cutting-edge research in astrophysics. Interns will be able to actively participate in breakthrough scientific linked to exoplanets and related topics. A minimum of $9000 will be guaranteed to all selected interns. The Trottier Excellence grants can be combined with an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award.

All students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in physics, astrophysics, engineering, or a related field at a Canadian university are eligible to apply. Interested candidates must fill our online form (https://forms.gle/W3RoEtgZvPq2EDWKA), uploading their application file therein, including a short statement of interest (max. 1 page, 1 statement per grant you are applying for) in which they explain their motivation to obtain the internship as well as their research interests, a curriculum vitae, and their most recent academic transcripts, by December 16th 2025. The successful candidates will be contacted in January/February 2026.

IREx advocates for diversity, inclusion and employment equity. We strongly encourage applications from women, visible and ethnic minorities, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities to apply. With the support of our EDI committee, we are committed to the professional integration of people from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the physics research community.
