Les recherches de Mallory portent sur l'évolution des galaxies suite à une fusion majeure, lorsque deux galaxies de taille comparable interagissent et fusionnent pour former une seule galaxie. Pour comprendre les changements à l'échelle du kpc résultant d'une fusion, elle utilise les mesures de spectroscopie intégrale de champ (IFS) du relevé Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA). L'IFS fournit un spectre pour chaque pixel d'une image de galaxie, ce qui lui permet d'examiner les variations des données spectrales, comme le taux de formation d'étoiles (TSF), à travers une galaxie.

Mallory’s research investigates how galaxies change as the result of a major galaxy merger, when two galaxies of comparable size interact and merge to form a single galaxy. To understand the kpc-scale changes resulting from a merger event, she uses Integral Field Spectroscopy (IFS) measurements from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey. IFS provides a spectrum for every pixel on an image of a galaxy, allowing her to examine how spectral data products like star-formation rate (SFR) vary across a galaxy
