The Graduate Student Committee is very excited to announce the first
ever winners of our student presentation awards. We selected 2 posters and
one
oral presentation at the 2005 CASCA meeting in Montreal. Congratulations to
André-Nicolas Chené from Université de Montréal,
Sijing Shen from McMaster
University, and Steve Bickerton from McMaster University.
This year, the local organizing committee set up a very dynamic panel discussion as part of the graduate student workshop. The theme was Astronomy and Sociology, and we were all reminded of the knowledge and wonder the average person carries with them about Astronomy. Our panelists, Yves Gingras, Dr. Jean-René Roy and Michael Jolliffe emphasized that as scientists, we bear a responsibility to the public in how we relate our science.
