Many of are back in the lecture hall or lab, toiling away after an all too brief summer! Our present issue contains its usual number of timely reports and news items from a faithful cohort of contributors. I am very grateful for these contributions especially since I know many of you were away over the past few, tragic days, and that travel home was delayed and difficult.

But, at the same time our "Features" cupboard is bare. So, a challenge to the rest of the readership to think of contributing articles that would be of interest to us all. Describe exciting research or novel educational approaches. Unsolicited articles are certainly welcome!

September 11 has cast a shadow across many of us so I hope you enjoy this issue's cover and the article gleaned (thanks to Jim Hesser) from the Vancouver Sun. Somehow I like to think that what we do is, in a small and final way, done for these bright, and irrepressibly optimistic faces! Many of us, I'm sure, share the deep conviction that Astronomy is one of those civilizing currents in our culture that helps build confidence and shared hope.
