HIA's Alan Batten presented an Invited Paper on "Eddington" at the international conference on "Dissent, Non-Conformity and Science in Britain, 1600-1945" held in Victoria, BC, in mid-September 2001, and sponsored by the Univ. of Victoria. Alan Batten de l'IHA a fait un Exposé par invitation sur "Eddington" à la conférence internationale "Dissent, Non-Conformity and Science in Britain, 1600-1945", tenue à Victoria à la mi-septembre 2001 et parrainée par l'Université de Victoria.
Early October, NRC issued a Press release for the "First Light" of GMOS on the Gemini North Telescope, entitled "Image of a perfect galaxy captured by new instrument". Au début d'octobre, le CNRC a émis un Communiqué de presse sur la "Première lueur" avec GMOS au Télescope Gémini Nord, intitulé "Un nouvel instrument capture l'image d'une galaxie parfaite"
Victoria's Times Colonist captured David Crampton's passion for astronomy and life, in a feature article in mid-October entitled "Stargazer comes down from mountain". La passion pour l'astronomie et pour la vie de David Crampton a été expliquée dans un grand article paru à la mi-octobre dans le Times Colonist de Victoria, appelé "Stargazer comes down from the mountain".
From 21 to 26 October, Penticton Lakeside Resort was home to 97 people attending the Conference "Seeing through the Dust", organized by HIA Penticton and held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first detection of the 21cm HI emission at Harvard. HIA staff presenting reviews were Stéphanie Côté and Lewis Knee. Le Penticton Lakeside Resort a été l'hôte, du 21 au 26 octobre, de 97 personnes à la conférence "Seeing through the Dust", organisée par l'IHA Penticton pour commémorer le 50e anniversaire de la première détection de l'émission de HI à 21cm à Harvard. Brent Carlson and Peter Dewdney of HIA Penticton made presentations in early November for the conceptual design review of the E-VLA Correlator in Socorro. The review was successful, and the consensus was that it should proceed to implementation expeditiously. Later that month, the US National Science Board authorized the upgrade of the VLA, giving the final green light in the US. Brent Carlson et Peter Dewdney de l'IHA Penticton ont fait des présentations au début de novembre sur l'évaluation du modèle conceptuel du Corrélateur pour le E-VLA à Socorro. Suite au succès de l'évaluation, le consensus fut de recommender son application dans les plus brefs délais. Plus tard le même mois, la US National Science Board a autorisé l'agrandissement du VLA, lui donnant le dernier feu vert requis aux E-U.
End of November, NRC issued a Press release for the Grand Opening of the 4th wing of the HIA building in Victoria, entitled "Gold mine of the 21st Century discovered in BC". En fin de novembre, le CNRC a émis un Communiqué de presse pour l'Ouverture Officielle de la 4e aile de l'édifice de l'IHA à Victoria, intitulé "La ruée vers l'or du 21e siècle en Colombie-Britannique".
HIA was pleased to welcome Martin Sawicki as a new Research Associate astronomer, starting in November in Victoria. Martin's strengths include cosmology and redshift surveys. L'IHA est heureuse de souhaiter la bienvenue à Martin Sawicki comme Chercheur Associé en astronomie, débutant en novembre à Victoria. Martin se spécialise principalement en cosmologie et dans les relevés de décalage vers le rouge.
