`Farewell and welcome' - if I remember Latin correctly. While only about a third of the CASCA membership seems to regularly access Cassiopeia, the proportion must increase as each new generation becomes as totally fluent with the web as scholars were a few generations ago in Latin. Gerry Grieve and I tried to make Cassiopeia the newsletter for CASCA and we probably succeeded to a degree - but we still lack input on Education and there is a dearth of hard copies going to libraries. It has proved largely impossible to get `what's happening at ..' from most institutions - the Canadian astronomical community is full of friendships and old aquaintances and Cassiopeia is a perfect way to stay in touch.
This said, Gerry and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of you who did submit articles, both scientific and historical plus regular reports over the past two and a half years, often with translations. Cassiopeia would have been nothing without you all. The sheer quality and quantity of papers in this issue resulting from the Vancouver meeting attests to a very healthy Society.
So, as Gerry and I say farewell, we are delighted to warmly welcome Brian Martin as the new editor - we are happy to leave Cassiopeia in his capable hands - please give him the same level of support - and more - that you gave us.
One other farewell - more `au revoir' - is to Jean-René Roy who leaves Laval in the Fall to become Associate Director of Gemini North. Don Morton has already provided an announcement. Here, I would would like to add my personal congratulations to Jean-René, and remind him that we are all still the best of friends even while we complain in future if Gemini North ever falls short of being the best 8-m telescope in the world!
