Sadly, in early March, Dr. Gerhard Herzberg passed away.
It was in his honour that in 1975 the new Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics
of NRC was named. A larger appreciation will appear elsewhere in Cassiopeia.

Robert McClure, Murray Fletcher, and William
Rambold exhibited the optical CFHT camera HRCam at a weekend in
January devoted to Invention in B.C., held at Victoria's Royal BC Museum.

In February Andy Woodsworth, Treasurer for C3.ca,
and the HIA hosted a meeting of the Board of C3.ca in
Victoria. C3.ca is a national organization to promote the use and
sharing of High-Performance Computing resources. An agreement was reached
on principles for sharing the facilities funded by the Canada Foundation
for Innovation. A potential use for astronomy concerns the data processing
for the CFHT TeraPix project.

En février Andy Woodsworth, trésorier du C3.ca,
et l'IHA ont été l'hôte
d'une rencontre du Bureau du C3.ca à Victoria. C3.ca est une
organisation nationale pour promouvoir l'usage et le partage de ressources
d'Ordinateurs de Grande Performance. Une entente a été

In March, the Gemini DHS (Data Handling Software) passed all the acceptance
tests at HIA. The DHS brings the data from the Gemini detectors all the way
to the archival system, and includes quick-look visual aids for the
astronomer. The DHS project is under the responsibility of Séverin
Gaudet, working with Jennifer Dunn, Norm Hill, and
Shannon Yeager.

En mars, the logiciel DHS (Data Handling Software) pour Gemini a
subi avec succès tous ses tests d'acceptation. Le DHS gère les
données à partir des détecteurs jusqu'aux
archives, incluant une visualisation rapide pour l'astronome. Ce projet
est sous la responsabilité de Séverin Gaudet,
avec l'aide de Jennifer Dunn, Norm Hill, et
Shannon Yeager.

POOPSY, the web-based proposal submission system, was created by
David Bohlender and Daniel Durand at the HIA.
The CFHT was the first telescope to make use of it; in semester 1999-B,
POOPSY successfully handled 55 Canadian-based and 57 French-based proposals.
In the not distant future, POOPSY should be amenable to the submission
of proposals from many more telescopes (optical and radio).

et fut créé par David Bohlender et
Daniel Durand à l'IHA. Le télescope CFH l'a
utilisé le premier; au semestre 1999-B, POOPSY a acheminé
55 demandes de temps du Canada et 57 autres de la France. Dans un avenir
proche, POOPSY devrait aider la soumission de demandes de temps
d'autres télescopes (optique et radio).
