What's happening at University of Victoria
Our newest faculty member Arif Babul has arrived and is settling in
teaching and working on Formation and Evolution of Galaxies and Galaxy
Clusters. We also have two new Post Docs: Geraint Lewis working on
Gravitational Microlensing and Lensing by Clusters of Galaxies, and Zdenka
Kuncic, who is working on the Energetic Central Regions of Active Galactic
Nuclei. We have one new graduate student, Carolyn Swerdlyk, starting a
Masters program. Tom Lowe has gone to a new job in Hawaii and will be
continuing his Masters.
Recent PhD thesis - James Overduin has completed his Doctoral Thesis
entitled "Observational Constraints of Higher-Dimensional and Variable
Lambda Cosmologies". In January 1998 he will be starting a two year NSERC
Post Doctoral Fellowship in Waterloo and Stanford.
